July: The Month of the Precious Blood of Jesus
By: Pa Zong Lee
Each year, the Church dedicates the month of July to the Precious Blood of Jesus, drawing our hearts to the profound mystery of Christ’s sacrificial love. It was through His Blood that we were redeemed, cleansed, and brought into the fullness of life. Shed for us in the agony of Gethsemane, poured out in the scourging, and flowing freely from His side on Calvary, the Precious Blood is a sign of both suffering and saving grace.
This devotion invites us to remember that our salvation came at a great cost. A cost Jesus willingly paid out of love. It calls us to deeper gratitude, reverence, and trust in His mercy. As Fr. Bodin beautifully puts it:
"It’s important to remember that Christ gave everything for us. Even in death, from the wound in His side, He poured out blood and water. He gave His entire self out of love. We, in turn, should show our love for Him by honoring His Precious Blood."
To celebrate the Month of the Precious Blood of Jesus, here are three simple ways to honor this devotion:
Pray a Devotion to the Precious Blood:
“Precious Blood of Jesus, cleanse me, save me, and protect me. May Your love and mercy flow through my life. Amen.” — Traditional Catholic Aspiration to the Precious BloodVisit a Crucifix:
Spend time reflecting before the crucifix in the Church of St. Peter, the adoration chapel, or a monastery. Focus especially on Christ’s wounds and the blood and water that flowed from His pierced side. And thirdly, share the Devotion:
Teach others, especially children or new believers about the meaning of the Precious Blood to deepen their understanding of Christ’s love and sacrifice.
May this month be a time of spiritual renewal and a deeper connection with our Savior. Thank you, Jesus, for the precious gift of your Blood, shed for love of us all!
“In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God's grace.” — Ephesians 1:7
